NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) — Terrance Motley scored 14 points and Jabari Peters added 13 as Sam Houston State cruised past Towson 67-55 on Saturday in a four-team tournament here.
Sam Houston State (7-3) won both its games in the Lumberjack E-Tech Classic at Stephen F. Austin University that matched teams from the Colonial Athletic and Southland conferences. It’s the Bearkats’ best start since 2007.
The Bearkats forced 15 Towson turnovers, scoring 20 points, and also outscored Towson 14-4 before halftime on second-chance shots despite being outrebounded 24-21 in the half.
Rafriel Guthrie scored 14 points off the bench, 12 in the second half, to lead the Tigers. Jerelle Benimon added 13 points and nine rebounds, and Four McGlynn added 10 points.
Towson (6-4) hit just 20 of 50 field goals and shot a chilly 10 for 23 from the free-throw line as it lost its second game in two nights at the Nacogdoches tournament.
