Police Say Officer Shot By Fellow Officer In P.G. County
DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County police say one of their officers inadvertently shot a District Heights officer in a crossfire situation as the two confronted a robbery suspect last week.
Police said Saturday their latest information suggests the District Heights officer was struck by a round fired from a Prince George's County officer's gun.
Police say the officer's protective bullet stopped the bullet, saving his life.
The shooting occurred as the officers approached a vehicle being entered by a man, Bobby Dews, who was suspected in an earlier commercial robbery. Police say the officers were on opposite sides of the car and both fired. Police say officers train annually on avoiding crossfire situations.
Dews and other suspects face charges in connection with the armed robbery. Court records don't list a defense lawyer.
