Deer Tally From Md. Firearm Season Up 2 Percent

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland Department of Natural Resources says hunters killed 2 percent more deer than last year during the two-week firearm season that ended Saturday.

The agency reported a preliminary tally Thursday of nearly 37,000. That's up from just over 36,000 in 2012.

The department says hunters reported seeing more deer in much of the state. But the agency says the unusually cold, snowy weather made hunting a challenge.
