Sagamore Farm Colt Gets His Name

BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- He's no longer a horse with no name. Monday, a thoroughbred colt born during last year's Super Bowl blackout has a new name.

Jessica Kartalija reports on the big reveal.

On a snow-covered Sagamore Farm, he's been in need of an identity. He was born during the blackout in the second half of last year's Super Bowl. Sagamore staff turned to the public to come up with a good name.

"People went crazy over it. Horse folks and sports fans are passionate about the game and hopefully everyone had fun," said Tom Mullikin.

There were more than a thousand submissions, which were rounded down to the top five: Lights Not Included, Dark Raven Mad, Quoth the Raven, Poe Boy and Blackout Raven.

Sagamore fans chose Quoth the Raven.

He's big on personality and the alpha male--always in charge--has a bright future ahead of him.

"The winner will receive Sagamore gear, tour the farm and we'll splurge and treat them to a day at the races for his first race one day," he said.

The winner says that she came up with the idea when the Ravens kept scoring during last year's Super Bowl. Every time they scored a touchdown, she said, someone said, "Quoth the Raven, seven more."

On Saturday, Sagamore welcomed their first foal of the year, Malibu Moon Filly out of Salsa Star. It's an exciting time for Sagamore racing.
