Man Tries To Swallow Drugs During Traffic Stop

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police say a man who tried to swallow suspected crack cocaine during a traffic stop lost consciousness and suffered seizures.

It happened about 3:45 p.m. Thursday in Hagerstown. A trooper stopped a car for an alleged traffic violation.

Police say the trooper smelled marijuana and ordered the driver out of the car. Troopers say the driver grabbed a plastic bag containing what appeared to be crack, put it in his mouth and tried to swallow it.

Troopers say the man refused to spit out the bag, lost consciousness and had seizures from an apparent overdose.

Paramedics were called and took the man to a local hospital, where doctors removed the plastic bag. Troopers say the bag contained 12 bags of crack cocaine and 4 bags of heroin.
