Kane died Tuesday at a Baltimore hospital of cancer. He was 62.

Kane had written a twice-weekly column for The Examiner since 2009. His last column, which was published on Jan. 30, dealt with watching his favorite movies as he suffered excruciating pain.

In an obit published on its website, The Sun said Kane joined the paper in 1993 as a reporter and began writing a column that focused on local issues in 1995.

The Sun said Kane worked with reporter Gilbert Lewthwaite on a series about slavery in Sudan. The series won an Overseas Press Club award.
