BALTIMORE (AP) — Thomas Baden Jr., editor of The News-Times in Danbury, Conn., has been named editor of The Daily Record in Baltimore.

Baden led The News-Times’ coverage of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn., in 2012.

Daily Record Publisher Suzanne E. Fischer-Huettner announced Baden’s selection on Monday. He succeeds David Simon, who left in October.

Baden, 60, is a graduate of the University of Maryland. He began his career at The Post-Standard in Syracuse, N.Y. He worked as a White House and national correspondent for Newhouse News Service, covering the 1988 and 1992 presidential campaigns.

Baden was managing editor of The Patriot-News in Harrisburg, Pa., executive editor of The Salt Lake Tribune in Utah and editor of the Connecticut Post in Bridgeport. He became editor in Danbury in 2012.
