Friends To Honor Md. Teen Who Committed Suicide

GLENELG, Md. (AP) -- Friends of a Maryland teenager who committed suicide two years ago will get to honor her memory at graduation.

Glenelg High School student Grace McComas committed suicide as a 15-year-old sophomore after she was bullied online. A state law aimed at preventing cyber bullying honors her.

Radio station WNEW-FM reports Grace's friends wanted to honor her by wearing blue ribbons on their gowns at their May graduation. Grace's mom says that request was initially denied. The Howard County Public School system changed its stance Friday.

Officials issued a statement that said its graduation procedures manual says that items worn on caps and robes are limited to academic achievements. But officials say they will allow students to wear wristbands in Grace's honor or, if her family prefers, the blue ribbons.
