Md. Opens Newest Wildlife Management Area

GRANTSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is welcoming hunters and outdoor enthusiasts to the state's newest wildlife management area.

The Cunningham Swamp Wildlife Management Area near Grantsville opens to the public Wednesday.

The state purchased the 258-acre parcel in 2013.

The agency says the tract is home to ruffed grouse, American woodcock, black bears, white-tailed deer and beaver.

The DNR says the swamp also contains good habitat for wood ducks and Canada geese.

Bird watchers may catch glimpses of alder flycatchers, Nashville warblers and golden-winged warblers.
