The nation’s top 44 senior boys and girls will be at Towson University this weekend for the 9th Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic. Being named an Under Armour All-American in Lacrosse is like being a McDonalds All-American in basketball; it simply means you’re the best of the best.
Saturday at Johnny Unitas Stadium fans will get fans will get a chance to see tomorrow’s college lacrosse stars play their final high school game in a North/South All-Star Game format. The South Boys have won 3 straight with the series tied at 4-4. While the Under Armour honor is only 9 years old you can find their alumni everywhere.
The World Championship Games are being played in Colorado this week and the United States team has 4 Under Armour All-Americans. Duke has won back to back NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championships and the rich get richer, Duke has 6 recruits in Saturday’s game. The 2014 NCAA Men’s Final 4 in Baltimore was represented by 40 Under Armour All-Americans.
This year’s national player of the year award was split between Albany teammates Lyle and Miles Thompson both were Under Armour All-Americans, so was Maryland’s Taylor Cummings she was named the women’s national player of the year. On the pro level 3 of the first 4 draft picks in this year’s Major League Lacrosse draft were Under Armour All-Americans.
Two of the most talked about players in Saturdays game are South teammates Shack Stanwick and Jake Seau. Stanwick (Att. 6-0, 195) lead coach Bob Shriver’s Boys Latin Lakers to a perfect 18-0 season and the A Conference championship. Shack set a school record with 334 career points. Considered the top recruit in the nation he’ll play his college lacrosse at Hopkins with his brother Steele.
While Stanwick was raised in a family of lacrosse stars, Jake Seau came to the game late. The son of NFL legend Junior Seau became an all-state lacrosse player at The Bishop’s School in San Diego. He also played football and basketball but the midfielder (6-3,200) will pursue lacrosse with 2- time defending national champion Duke.
The boys game will be played at 5:00 Saturday and will be broadcast live on ESPN U, the girl’s game will follow. Here’s the full schedule of a full weekend at the Lacrosse Classic.
