LAUREL, Md.  (WJZ) — A woman is charged with assault after she used a screwdriver to stab a man multiple times.

Police say they were called Sunday at approximately 1:35 p.m. to a 7-Eleven, located at 9250 New Hampshire Ave. in Silver Spring, Md. for a reported stabbing.

The victim, 46-year-old Elmer Alexander Montiel, of Greenbelt, and the suspect, 45-year-old Elsa Torres,  also of Greenbelt, were traveling on Route 98 at Route 198 when they had an argument.

Torres stabbed Montiel with a screwdriver several times.

Montiel drove to a nearby 7-Eleven, where he asked for medical assistance.

He was transported a local hospital for treatment.

Officials say Torres was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon,  first  and second-degree assault.

She is being held at the county detention center.
