Baltimore Mayor Announcing Program On Sewers Lines
BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is announcing a new program to repair the public portion of the city’s sewer pipes that connect residences and businesses to public sewer lines.
The mayor is scheduled to announce the initiative on Tuesday with the city’s Department of Public Works.
The aim of the program is to reduce the number of backed-up sewers and improve the city’s wastewater conveyance system.
The initiative will examine properties with a history of sewer backups to determine need for repairs or upgrades to the public side of the sewer lines. Property owners are responsible for pipes on property up to the sewer line.
The mayor’s office says North Baltimore’s Idlewood neighborhood will be the first area to be inspected as part of the program.
