Baltimore Orioles fans have been waiting to hear news about Platinum Glove winner Manny Machado since they saw him laying in the dirt Monday at Camden Yards after he hit a ground ball to Derek Jeter. The scene we all witnessed left lots of doubt in regards to the rest of the 2014.
Well on Wednesday we finally heard from the 21 year old. Manny seemed upbeat and confident about his return in a press conference at OPACY. Machado admitted that he was relieved when he finally heard the diagnosis from the medical staff. After suffering a serious injury to his left knee, I’m sure there was doubt. Manny also says he knows what to expect in his recovery based on previous injuries that he described as “Freak accidents”.
When asked about the timetable of his return Machado said, “Its a feel thing.” He did not seem to believe that one injury had anything to do with the other adding, “It’s part of the game… we play 162 games.”
Manny seemed eager to return to the lineup saying, “We have something special here.” The Orioles are in first place in the American League East and Machado obviously likes the team’s chances. That was obvious when he said, “We’re the best team in the League.”
