Rabid Housecat Attacks Eastern Shore Camper

SNOW HILL, Md. (AP) -- Health officials say a rabid housecat bit a camper at a state park in Maryland's Eastern Shore.

Worcester County health officials said Wednesday that they've found the cat and euthanized it. They say rabies was confirmed by a state laboratory.

The attack happened on Monday at the Pocomoke River State Park. A spokeswoman with the Worcester County Health Department did not immediately respond to a message for more information.

Health officials are advising members of the public that may have had contact with the cat that they could be at risk for rabies. They ask the public to contact the Worcester County Health Department immediately at 410-641-9559 if they may have been exposed.

The cat is described as an adult male with gray fur and patches of white.
