Wedding Photographer Severely Beaten, Remains In Medically Induced Coma

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Another troubling, random attack on Baltimore City streets. Police need your help finding the people who beat and robbed a wedding photographer, leaving him unconscious in the street.

Rochelle Ritchie spoke with the victim's family, who are now desperate for an arrest.

Eric Sudam, 22, remains in a medically induced coma after police say he was beat up and robbed at the corner of Front and Plowman streets.

"He was very severely beaten, so much so that he was unconscious when officers first arrived at the scene," said Det. Ruganzu Howard, Baltimore Police Department.

Eric's parents say he was working a photo booth at the 1840s Ballroom when police say he went to get something out of his car. His parents say that's when he was attacked.

"He's a great kid. He's strong. He was training to run a marathon with a bunch of his friends next month," said Sandy Sudam, victim's mother.

Sudam was brought to Shock Trauma with a broken nose, bleeding from the back of his head and his mouth. No one has been able to get anything out of him as far as what happened because he is barely able to communicate.

"He's trying and we're hoping that soon he'll wake up and be able to talk to us," his mother said.

The Centennial High School graduate is only able to communicate by squeezing hands. Police say with the young professional being unable to speak because of his injuries, they are hoping security cameras and witnesses can do the talking for him and lead to an arrest.

"We're asking for the public's help because this is truly, truly an innocent person who was just walking to his car," Det. Howard said.

Police are not saying what the robbers stole. Police say they are looking for multiple suspects.

The victim is in a medically induced coma to prevent swelling to his brain.
