Dog Hungry To See Orioles In Playoffs, Chews Tickets

CATONSVILLE (WJZ) --You've probably heard this excuse a hundred times -- the dog ate my homework. Well, that hit close to home for one Orioles fan.

Ron Matz reports on a Catonsville man who's been left with a lot to chew on as he gets ready to go to the playoffs and hopefully the World Series.

Inside this home in Catonsville, there's a dog who likes to chew.

"I got an email from the Orioles saying the tickets would be arriving on Monday," longtime O's fan Karl Breslaw said. " I let both dogs out on the front porch. It was a beautiful day and I forgot about it. I heard the truck pull up and a couple minutes later it dawned on me it was my tickets."

It was Fed Ex delivered Karl Breslaw's precious Orioles playoff and World Series tickets.

"I went outside. I was in utter shock. My heart hit my shoes. I said 'now what?' Breslaw asked. "The dog was nosing down at the tickets. he must have ripped the envelope in half."

But, Karl's 7-month-old, 80-pound Burmese Mountain Dog named Fezzik got to the tickets first, chewing away at them like they were a T-bone steak.

"I was able to rescue the sheet and right away I saw he had not chewed into the bar codes, but he did take a chunk of the World Series tickets," he added. " The bar codes are intact and the tickets are in my name."

The good news, while the World Series tickets are damaged at the top corners, the bar codes and seat locations are intact. So Karl, a longtime O's fan, will get to go to the games if the O's get to baseball's biggest stage.

"There were little pieces all over the place. There were big ripped sections. You could see the remnants of the Fed Ex envelope," he said. " He must have ripped the envelope right in half as soon as he got a hold of it."

Guess Fezzik was hungry to see the O's in the playoffs too -- man's best friend and certainly Karl's.

"He had a chew toy out there, but I guess when the friendly man in the blue shirt put this new toy over the railing he found it irresistible," he said.

Karl estimates he's been to more than a thousand orioles games during his lifetime. Fezzik is named for the character in the movie 'The Princess Bride."
