1-On-1 With Adam Jones: Orioles Playoff Strategy Is Simply To Win

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Orioles fever is at an all-time high and as the O's gear up for their first playoff game, Linh Bui talked to star outfielder Adam Jones.

Bui: "What do you think it is that's made the team so successful this season? What was the magic?"

Jones: "It's just a team that wants and wills themselves everyday to win-no matter who or how, as long as it happens."

Bui: "Take us back to that moment you guys clinched the playoffs at home and just what was going through your mind, what you were thinking and feeling."

Jones: "'Finally,' for the city of Baltimore. The older generation-it's been since 1969, so I think the older generation got to celebrate at home, had that 'Ah! Moment.' The new generation, guys who are 30 and under, as a child they'd known good baseball, as an adult they've known not so good baseball. So, I think for them, it was kind of a relief. 'Our team is back, our city is back and we're back supporting the Orioles.'"

Bui: "One of our favorite moments from that clinching night was when you came back around and you were throwing pies."

Jones: "I want to pie people! It was a great moment. I think, Lord willing if everything goes well and we're able to do more, more to come!"

Bui: "More pies, more poppin' bottles."

Jones: "A lot."

Bui: "So playoffs are here. What are you thinking and feeling?"

Jones: "Well, it's playoff baseball. You're gonna have to play not good baseball, but great baseball because that's just what the times call for. We're gonna have to play smart, but have some fun with it also because at the end of the day, it is a game. But, you know, it's important, so we're just gonna have fun, maintain our game that we've played continuously and just stay the course."

Bui: "Any strategy?"

Jones: "Win. Doesn't matter. Score more than the opponent."

Bui: "Anything you'd like to say to the fans, and the city?"

Jones: "Continuously come out and support. It's not gonna be easy, it's gonna be lumpy, but it's gonna be fun."

The Orioles face the Detroit Tigers in Game 1 Thursday at 5:37 p.m. and Friday at 12:07 p.m. at Camden Yards.
