Bob Haynie: Flacco On Fire As Ravens Rock Bucs

Wow, that was quick. If you went to the kitchen to make a sandwich and grab a beer, you would have missed it.

In a span of 16:03, Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco threw five touchdown passes to four different receivers against the beleaguered Tampa Bay Buccaneers to --basically-- end Sunday's game well before halftime. Flacco's onslaught in the first and early second quarter gave the Ravens a 35-0 lead and also gave Baltimore sports fans a chance to sit back and enjoy a relaxing day.

With the Orioles on the ropes against the Royals in the ALCS, we needed that. But I digress.

The Ravens would go on to clobber the Buccaneers 48-17 and improve to 4-2 on the season. No doubt, a strong way to rebound for Baltimore after last week's tough loss to the Colts in Indy.

WR Torrey Smith caught two of the touchdowns as he broke out of his season-long slump. There is no denying that a productive Torrey makes the Baltimore offense a tad more exciting.

Steve Smith, Sr. continues to amaze in his first year with the club. He has five receptions for 110 yards and added his fourth TD catch in six games.

Kamar Aiken and Michael Campanaro (River Hill) both caught their first career TD pass as Flacco was spreading the wealth at Raymond James Stadium.

Flacco finished the day 21-29 for 306 yards and, of course, the five touchdowns. He did not throw a pick and he wasn't sacked. For the season, he has completed 63.6% of his passes and has tossed for 12 TD's with only three interceptions.

A week after running the ball only 15 times, the Ravens had 35 rushing attempts against Tampa Bay. Justin Forsett, who has been outstanding, led the way with 111 yards on only 14 carries.

On defense, the Ravens had five sacks and CB Jimmy Smith recorded the first interception of the year by a Baltimore DB.

With the win, the Ravens matched last year's victory total on the road (2).

All in all, a satisfying Sunday for coach John Harbaugh and his men.

The Tampa Bay Bucs are a bad team and the Baltimore Ravens did to them what good teams usually do to bad teams.

They blew them out.
