WEATHER BLOG: Bermuda Braces For Monster Hurricane

Gonzalo, now a monster category 4 hurricane in the Atlantic, is packing maximum sustained winds around 145 mph as per the 11 a.m. update from the National Hurricane Center.

It is expected to weaken slowly as it heads northward, but will remain a major hurricane as it reaches Bermuda by Friday.

A hurricane warning is currently in effect for Bermuda, which means that hurricane conditions are expected within the warning area. The forecast track has the center of Gonzalo near Bermuda by Friday afternoon and evening, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm will pose significant threats to the island, including flash flooding and damaging hurricane-force wind gusts during the day Friday. Widespread power outages and significant structural damage will be possible.

We'll have updates on Hurricane Gonzalo at 4, 5, 6 and 11 p.m. on WJZ-TV.
