Injury Report: Chris Canty and Owen Daniels Could Return Against Steelers

By Samuel Njoku

The Ravens fell to the Bengals in a heart breaking loss to lose their grip on the AFC North. Now they turn their attention to a familiar division foe with loads of bad blood to spare. Before this epic encounter, Baltimore hopes to get a few players healthy for Week 9.

Chris Canty has been a huge plus for the Ravens since signing with Baltimore a few seasons ago. He’s been dealing with a wrist injury for a few weeks and has been out of action for some time. The good news for Ravens fans is that he appears to be good to go after practicing all week. Having a lineman like Canty active against a team like Pittsburgh is essential when it comes to stopping the run and keeping Ben Roethlisberger contained.

While Canty looks to be a go for Sunday night, the same can’t be said for CB Jimmy Smith, who is suffering from a foot sprain. His presence on the football field is invaluable. The evidence of that can be seen by the play of the defense after he left the game last week against the Bengals. Cincinnati took advantage of Baltimore’s lack of depth at corner and the Ravens were unable to respond. The Steelers will look to copy the formula used by Cincinnati on Sunday night.

One of the more intriguing situations on the Ravens injury front is TE Owen Daniels, who underwent a knee procedure. The procedure kept him out of last week’s game. His practice time as fluctuated over the past few days which makes it difficult to gauge his availability on Sunday night. A good sign was that he practiced fully for the first time on Friday. He is definitely a game time decision. Baltimore will have to test how well his knee responds and if it may be best to just wait until after the bye week to play the veteran tight end.
