Man Remains Critical After Shed Explosion

WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say a Westminster man remains in critical but stable condition after the explosion of a storage shed behind his home.

Investigators with the State Fire Marshal's Office are still trying to determine the cause and the origin of the explosion, which occurred early Saturday morning. But investigators say they believe it was an accident.

The victim has been identified as 56-year-old Bernard Toporzycki. He was walking into the shed when it blew up. He suffered 2nd- and 3rd-degree burns among other injuries.

The force of the blast damaged 11 homes, and three of them were deemed temporarily unsafe to live in. Those homes will be inspected before residents can return. No one else was injured.
