COLUMBIA, Md. (WJZ) -- Family targeted. A terrible act of violence on this Thanksgiving holiday. A suspects knocks on a door and then opens fire.

Rochelle Ritchie has more on why police say the crime was not random.

Right now, we don't know what led up to the shooting. Police say they have several people in custody for questioning.

Shots rings out at a Columbia apartment complex in the 5800 block of Stevens Forest Road after a 29-year-old man is shot multiple times.

"It's what we consider priority one. It's critical, very serious injuries,"said Mary T. Phelan, Howard County Police.

Police say just before 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon, the shooter knocked on the door. A woman answered and he barged inside.

"He was masked and carrying a gun and he shot an adult male several times and was critically injured and flown to Shock Trauma," said Phelan.

Less than half a mile away from where the shooting actually took place, Howard County Police stopped a black SUV and took the people inside in for questioning.

Howard County Police say a 29-year-old was also found in the vehicle with injuries.

"We do not know if any one of them is a suspect at this time. They are determining that as we speak," said Phelan.

Howard County Police say the shooting was not random. No word if the 29-year-old's injuries are related to the incident.
