Baltimore Man Pleads Guilty In $100K Diamond Heist
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A Baltimore man faces up to eight years in prison for his role in a $100,000 diamond heist in Frederick.
The Frederick News-Post reports that 45-year-old Charles Boatwright pleaded guilty Tuesday to robbery of a Wholesale Diamond Consultants store last March.
Prosecutors dropped other charges, including first- and second-degree assault. Boatwright will be sentenced in February.
Boatwright was one of two men charged in the March 12 robbery. Police say he displayed a small revolver that he later dumped, along with a bag containing the diamonds, in a trash bin near the store. The gun was a non-working antique.
His accomplice, Anthony Thornton of Baltimore, was arrested as he approached the bin that evening. He pleaded guilty to robbery and was sentenced to 10 years in prison in September.
