WEATHER BLOG: Blustery Thursday

Temperatures, for the most part, will be no higher than the upper 30s this afternoon, and there is still going to be a fairly brisk west and northwest wind, which will average 10-20 mph with some gusts of up to 30 mph possible.

As the low pressure system begins to lift northward into Canada tonight, most of the flurries and the odd snow showers still left over will begin to dissipate, and the wind will also start to diminish early on.

That should allow for a more tranquil overnight period (rather than the current one, which features a batch of snow and flurries rotating into areas east of the Appalachians).

Lows in most outlying areas will be in the 20s, while most of the bigger cities will be close to the freezing mark.

Tomorrow, while it may still be cloudy most of the time, especially across New York and in New England, there should also be less wind, and most places will be dry.

Baltimore and and its adjacent suburbs should reach the low-40s, and then the mid-40s on both Saturday and Sunday.

We're being 'cautiously optimistic' about sky cover right now, because while it may just turn out 'sunny' in a best-case scenario, there is a concern that a strong temperature inversion in the boundary layer on either one of those mornings could set up, and moisture could get trapped beneath it.

Nonetheless, it will be much more tranquil around here over the weekend, as well as early next week.
