Amur Leopard To Make Debut At Md. Zoo

BALTIMORE (AP) -- The Maryland Zoo says that after 30 days in quarantine its Amur leopard is ready to make her debut at the zoo.

The zoo says Sofiya the Amur leopard will make her debut Monday.

The zoo says Sofiya was born at the St. Louis Zoological Park in Missouri and has also lived at The Fort Wayne Children's Zoo and Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo. She's spent the last 30 days in quarantine, like all new animals arriving at the zoo.

The zoo says the Amur leopard is the most critically endangered leopard subspecies and that it is estimated that there are less than 40 living in the wild.
