WEATHER BLOG: Sunday

Yesterday was a chilly day, with plenty of clouds and we only managed to get to 38 at BWI and 39 at Inner Harbor! As high pressure slowly slides to our east, winds aloft will shift out of the southwest early this morning and allow temperatures to moderate slightly during the day today into the lower 40s.

By Monday, a sharp upper level trough will move into the Great Lakes, allowing for a favorable upper level pattern for upward motion by late in the day. Clouds will increase throughout the day and there may even be some light rain or drizzle by afternoon.

On Tuesday, the upper level trough will move eastward, spawning an area of low pressure in the Tennessee Valley. At the same time, strong warm advection will be occurring in the east, allowing for a bit of light rain and drizzle throughout
the day. By later Tuesday night, a slug of moisture will approach the region as the area of low pressure moves into the Great Lakes. This will provide us with a decent amount of rain and wind Wednesday into Wednesday night. At this point, we cannot rule out up to 1" of rainfall along with winds gusting to 40mph in the city Wednesday. Temperatures will also spike late Wednesday to near 60!

Colder air will rush back into the region late Wednesday night after the rain tapers, and Thursday will feature temperatures in the 40s with a bit of sunshine. Another system will form in the midwest and move to our northwest Friday into Saturday, and temperatures will moderate during this period. Some rain may be possible Saturday into Sunday as a cold front moves toward the region.
