Ed Norris: Don't Get Too Excited About Mayweather Pacquiao

It has been reported that Manny Pacquiao has agreed to a 40% take on the revenue from a fight with Floyd Mayweather in May. Sounds great right? Mayweather gets the lion's share of the money (60%) and we all finally get the fight we all have been dying to see. What could possibly go wrong?

Without being too pessimistic I will just say this is a giant case of " I'll believe it when I see it". The news about Pacquiao agreeing to 40% is being treated as earth shaking... the piece needed all along to make this super fight actually happen. It's simply not true and I'm not that hopeful that this bout ever takes place. Trust me I hope I'm wrong as I have been a boxing fan since I was a little boy. I even boxed in the AAU as a light heavyweight in New York State. So, I like many of you have been eagerly awaiting this fight.

The problem is that Pacquiao hasn't been the problem. He has always wanted the fight so this news about the way the money will be split is not earth shattering to me. I still believe that Floyd views Manny as the one person who could potentially spoil his legacy as an undefeated champion.

I will stay tuned for the next flimsy excuse to not fight while hoping that I am completely wrong. Again, I'll believe it when I see it.
