Investigation Continues In Fatal Baltimore Fire

BALTIMORE, Md. (WJZ)—A house goes up in flames in west Baltimore killing a toddler inside.

Tracey Leong has the very latest on the investigation.

Good samaritans working up the street saw that fire and came running down to help the people inside the building. They were able to save three family members, but they were unable to get to the little boy in time.

Neighbors panicking screaming for help as flames swallow a home on Whitelock Street.

"Fire shooting out the second floor window, glass popping, I seen a guy run out of the house covered with soot",said Melvin Reid.

Melvin Reid lives across the street capturing the devastating footage on his phone.

"I just kept saying I hope everybody's alright," said Reid.

A family trapped inside when the fire broke out two construction workers on a job nearby saw the chaos and ran straight into the burning building. They pulled out a father and two young boys, but one child not making it.

A good samaritan is being hailed for their bravery.

"We have to classify them as being heroes, these gentlemen saw the situation, they raised to the situation, and they did what they could do to assist, "said Captain Roman Clark.

"How they run up in that house like that not knowing what to expect, just running up in there and then actually saving a life," said Reid.

Fire investigators now working to see what caused the row home to go up in flames and the death of a young boy.

"My heart sink, I am still sad about that," said Reid.

The father and his two boys, ages two and three, remain at the University of Maryland Medical Center. The father is in critical condition and the two boys are said to be improving.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
