W.Va Woman Convicted In Crash That Killed Maryland Girl
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A West Virginia woman faces up to a year in jail for knowingly driving an uninsured vehicle in a crash that killed a 5-year-old Maryland girl.
Thirty-four-year-old Karen See of Ranson, West Virginia was convicted Tuesday at a bench trial stemming from a June crash that killed Bryer Hendricks of Knoxville, Maryland. A sentencing date has not been set.
The girl was in the back seat of her great-grandmother's Buick when See's Ford Explorer rear-ended the car on Route 67 in southern Washington County, Maryland.
See argued that she didn't know the insurance had lapsed. But she acknowledged under cross-examination that the policy had been canceled because of her poor driving record.
See pleaded guilty in November to two traffic violations in the crash and was fined $410.
