Jeremy Conn: What's Next For The Orioles?

The Orioles have to figure out what happens with Dan Duquette. There have been rumors dating back before Thanksgiving that the Blue Jays had interest in him. The Orioles have Duquette locked up for four more years (through the 2018), so they hold all of the cards regarding compensation. They can ask for the world if they want to, but it does seem like the writing is on the wall for a possible trade to Toronto.

Fans are asking the who is in charge right now? Some are making claims that Duquette has been sandbagging and not doing his due diligence in going after free agents. I personally don't agree with them. That guy takes too much pride in his job and if he doesn't end up in Toronto he will have to deal with whats left here.

It does stink for me personally that Aoki signed with the Giants. I felt like he would have been a perfect fit with the Orioles.

The Orioles did get some arbitration done on the contracts of four players on Friday. Chris Davis, Matt Wieters, Chris Tillman and Brian Matusz all agreed to deals around the 1 PM deadline.

  • Davis signed for $12 million up from $10.35 million.
  • Wieters $8.3 million up from $7.7 million.
  • Matusz $3.2 million up from $2.4 million.
  • Tillman for $4.315 million (most substantially) up from $546,000.
