UFC Fight Night Preview

Number 1 Contender for the UFC Featherweight Championship Chad Mendes is joined by his opponent for UFC Fight Night, Ricardo Lamas, on the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to preview their bout happening April 4th at the Patriot Center in Fairfax Virginia. Jeremy asked Ricardo what it's like to do a media tour with someone you are going step in the octagon with and trade blows with for five rounds. "I think we both have a mutual respect for each other. UFC does a good job of kinda keeping us separate."

Chad felt very similar to Ricardo in terms of traveling and building up a fight with your opponent. "There's definitely certain guys that all you want to do is rip their head off. But there is other guys that, I don't know what it is exactly but you're kind of on the same level I guess and there is nothing beef wise going on between you two. But like you said there is mutual respect, and for me there is a lot that goes into getting into an octagon and beating the crap out of another person, or getting into a complete war with someone that really builds a respect."

Even though this is a non-title fight there is a lot of pride on the line. Jeremy asked Chad for his thoughts on where him and Ricardo stand in the Featherweight division. "Honestly I think me and Ricardo are the top guys in the division. It's me him and Frankie (Edgar) . You know we're trying to fight the best to be the best... Me and Ricardo, we know that we are the top guys in the division and for us to get in there and fight each other, that's gonna be the true number one contender. And we are going to find out on April 4th who is actually the real number one contender."

Tickets for UFC Fight Night go on sale Friday, February 13 at 10 a.m. and are available at all Ticketmaster outlets including the Patriot Center box office and Ticketmaster.com.
