Sky's The Limit For Terps After Huge Win In College Park

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WJZ) – March madness. It may still be February, but excitement is building for this year's University of Maryland men's basketball team.

A huge win in College Park, and the team and fans think the sky is the limit.

Sports director Mark Viviano has more on the big win and future for the Terps.

Some will call Maryland's win over Wisconsin an upset--and in some ways, it is--but the Terps beg to differ. They want you to know--they've been winning big games all season long.

New to the Big Ten Conference, but accustomed to winning big games in College Park, Maryland added another to the list, beating league-leader Wisconsin.

The Terps continue to climb in the national rankings. They're headed for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in Mark Turgeon's four seasons as coach.

The coach credits the guys on the court.

"I've got really good players. You don't get to 23-5 if you don't have really good players. We figure out a way to win, we compete when we have to. I'll take those wins as long as we keep winning, and that's really all that matters," Coach Turgeon said.

Turgeon says his players are gritty and tough. Senior guard Dez Wells leads the way.

Don't tell Wells he and his teammates are writing some sort of a Cinderella story.

"No. I have high expectations in everything that I do. So this is just one of those things that you just expect to be great," Wells said.

Riding a four game winning streak, the Terps are getting hot at just the right time.

"You want to be at your best the closer you get to March, heading into the conference tournament and hopefully the NCAA Tournament," said senior guard Richaud Pack. "You just want to keep getting better and minimize mistakes."

It's getting closer to tournament time, but there are still three more regular season games to go—including the final home game. That's this Saturday against Michigan.
