Charles County Police Identify Officer Involved In Shooting

WALDORF, Md. (AP) -- The Charles County Sheriff's Office has identified the deputy who shot a man who they say assaulted a woman then threatened her with a gun.

Police have identified the deputy as Officer S. Hooper, who has been with the sheriff's office for two years but has worked in law enforcement for 22 years.

Police say deputies responded to a woman's 911 call late Tuesday night. The woman reported that her boyfriend had just assaulted her and was armed with a gun and threatening her.

Police say when officers arrived, the suspect was at the front door pointing a shotgun at the deputy.

Police say the suspect refused to drop the gun and the deputy fired his weapon, striking the suspect in the leg.
