Maryland Zoo Holds Summer Camp

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Maryland Zoo is holding a summer camp this year.

Registration opens March 1. The one-week camp is $410 per child; zoo members pay $345. If children sign up with friends, there's a 10% discount. The camp is Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Each camp will be conducted by a zoo educator and two adult camp counselors; each session will have 20 campers.

Campers can walk around the zoo, brush goats, feed giraffes and ride camels. They will be spending much of the time outdoors in various weather conditions.

There are three camp experiences. Second graders have Zoo Detectives Camp. They solve a zoo mystery a day, as well as experience interactive exhibits, learn about nature and how to protect animals and their habitats. This camp will not go behind the scenes with animals because the campers are so young. It runs August 10-14.

Third-fifth grades have Action for Animals. This day camp shows them what is being done to protect animals throughout the world. This camp runs July 6-10, July 13-17 and July 27-31.

Sixth-eighth grades have Working for Wildlife camp. Participants explore the role zoos and other conservation organizations play in protecting animals throughout the world and how they can help. This camp runs July 20-24 and August 3-7.
