North And West Of Baltimore, The Snow Piled Deep

WESTMINSTER, Md. (WJZ) – Record-breaking snow. Maryland is hit with a March storm, dumping several inches on us just as we're hoping for spring.

Rick Ritter reports further out to our north and west, snow piled even deeper in some places.

It's the common theme across Maryland—poor visibility, slick roads and mini mountains of snow. Old Man Winter's grip on the region is stronger than ever.

"It's just been a terrible winter after last winter was a terrible winter," said Mike Hess.

In Harford County, roads took a beating.

"Hopefully we're tracking our last snow storm of the season."

Out in Frederick, traffic was at a minimum after state police declared a snow emergency.

"I hope they're not on the roads so it makes it easier for us to clear the roads."

Over in Carroll County, there were some minor accidents and cars stalled out, while crews dug away at 400 tons of salt.

Reporter: "Is it safe to say this is the hardest hitting winter storm you'd had this season?"

Driver: "I would say yes. I think that's it."

Down the street in Westminster, Mike Hess shoveled his monster of a driveway.

"You have to shovel for a few hours to get your car out of the driveway," he said.

In Union Bridge, the snow was nonstop all day, totaling at least ten inches and leaving side streets a mess.

Like Paul Scott's home along Phillips Lane.

"We have nice open fields. So if it gets windy, all this becomes naught," said Scott.

While kids hope for another snow day, the adults are over it.

Crews plan on salting roads over the next 48 hours.
