Breaking Down The Ravens Salary Cap Situation

Brian McFarland, who is a capologist for Russell Street Report, joined the Scott Garceau Show with Terry Ford filling in for Jeremy Conn to discuss where the Ravens are in terms of cap space with less than a week until the new NFL league year. Brian believes that most contracts are going to be huge in this free agent class. "I think with all of these teams with all of this cap space and this new rule with the minimum cash spent, and a lot of teams way under that number. I have a feeling you're going to see some contracts that are just going to be crazy."

Scott and Terry asked Brian for an update on the Haloti Ngata front, which holds large implications on the Ravens 2015 salary cap situation. "They're going to have to pay Ngata probably what they paid Suggs last year. He's going to have to make his 8 1/2 million this year, that's his base salary and it's what he's due. Any deal for him from the Ravens is going to have to include that plus a little more. But most of it is going to be a bonus instead of paid salary so they can spread it out over whatever new years they come up with. That's exactly what they did with Suggs. Now why it hasn't happened this time when it seemed a month ago it was a forgone conclusion, that remains to be seen. The Ravens always say the right player right price, and maybe they have their price and they're not willing to go above it at this point."
