Bob Haynie: Machado Will Mash For The Orioles

If you have been listening to the Norris and Davis Show this week, you would know that I have been filling in for Ed. On Wednesday's program, I made a couple of guarantees when it comes to the 2015 performance of Manny Machado.

I have been wrong--really wrong--at times when it comes to bold predictions. However, I am feeling a monster season ahead for the talented third baseman of the Baltimore Orioles and not even I can jinx that from becoming a reality.

Machado played in only 82 games in 2014 due to injuries. He missed the first part of the season as he recovered from an injury to his left knee suffered in September of 2013. In August of last year, he injured his right knee and was done for the rest of the campaign.

The 22-year old is healthy and ready to roll for manager Buck Showalter in 2015, it seems. This spring, he is hitting .353 and his mobility in the field appears to be fine.

If Machado stays healthy, he will put together an All-Star season for the Orioles.

I am predicting that he will-at the least--hit .300, club over 20 home runs and produce over 40 doubles. Of course, he will also be the top defensive third sacker in the American League.

In Machado, the Orioles have a rising superstar. All he needs to do is stay on the field and stay focused and the rest will take care of itself.

On an unrelated note, the Ravens traded Haloti Ngata to the Detroit Lions Tuesday after the two sides could not agree on a contract restructure. I co-hosted a radio show here on 105.7 The Fan with Haloti for two seasons. Even though speaking with the media isn't one of his favorite things, he proved to be a charming and funny radio sidekick. He was quick with the quip and he really enjoyed interacting with the fans.

It was a pleasure working with him and I wish him all the best in Detroit.
