Going Around The MLB With Joe Giglio

Joe Giglio of WFAN in New York joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to preview the American League East and give his preseason predictions for the MLB Playoffs. Teams must have their final rosters set by 3 PM on Sunday afternoon, Scott asked Joe how much activity we will see before the deadline. "I think we'll see some, probably more than recent years. There is a lot of teams that have one or two players that they don't want to send down, or they would like to bring a guy on the roster but you have the 40 man. The 40 man roster crunch is really difficult on some players who they might want to take on the team but they have options left so they can send them down... Obviously a lot of paperwork going on in these next couple of days."

The MLB and MLBPA are in the middle of an argument of the demotion of Cubs prospect Kris Bryant to AAA. Joe weighed in on where he sits on the issue. "I think the system is broken more than the Cubs are broken. The idea that they can keep him out for two weeks and get a full year. If we just project the heck out of this and he is as good as people think he's going to be and you look ahead at baseball salaries, that could be 35 million dollars that they would have to pay him for a season down the line... It's a big deal but at the same time I get it."

Joe wrapped things up by giving his predictions for how the American League and the National League will shake out, along with his World Series prediction. "I'm going with the Mariners to get out of the American League, I think once they get in the post season they're going to be very good. I think it's the year for the Washington Nationals and their potential... I think it's now or never with them."
