WEATHER BLOG: Warm Weather Ahead

Hi Everyone!

We have officially turned the corner. Check it out. The normal is now 64. This week we do not see a temp below normal. For 5 days! SWEET! Mon-73, Tue-67, Wed-66, Thurs-64, Fri-70, and Sat-69. And the latter part of the forecast features those temps under gray and damp skies!

Jammin'!!

A good week lay ahead, but let's talk about the forecast crash on Opening Day before we say goodbye for this day. Here is how life works in the world of weather. Everyone gets the same data like fronts, where highs, and lows, are..the basic info. Then it is up to interpretation. That is what makes a lot of forecasts different. Now read the following and memorize it;

THE ONE VARIABLE IS THE EARTH ITSELF.

Got that? The Earth can and will, throw us curveballs. It has to do with Geography, topography, and a few other root forms of the science. On Friday EVERYONE'S thoughts  agreed that a push of warm air would press over the region followed by a cold front and possible t-storms. Well here comes the Earth with a different idea.

Not unlike in the Winter when we forecast a snow/rain line, with rain eventually moving in, (and it does not and we end up with 8" of snow), the same situation happened Friday. Cold air dammed up against the mountains. That suppressed the warm air, and what warm air there was you could only find above the layer of chilly air at the ground. By the time the cold front got here the warmer conditions were suppressed South. And we got nowhere near 78. That is how Mother Nature rolled on Opening Day.

How happy do you think the weather folk in the area were? Not too happy trust me. Then here come the Tweets. Some even had proper spelling. But that is life on the 3rd rock from the Sun. Science and society mix. And usually it works. Usually.

Dare I say we are sure this will be a mild week. Yeah sure…..why not. That is the way it looks. Right now.
