Forces Unite To Protect Baltimore
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Security measures have been beefed up across the city.
Tracey Leong explains how forces are uniting to protect Baltimore.
Governor Larry Hogan declared a state of emergency and called in local, regional and state resources to quell the violence in our city.
Chaos and destruction took over Baltimore. The National Guard and officers from all over the state united to deal with the devastation.
"We have an obligation to keep this city safe," said Baltimore Police Captain Eric Kowalczyk.
Law enforcement fanned out across the city, adding extra protection for the more critical areas that were under attack Monday night.
"We will respond quickly and efficiently to those that take place but hope we don't have to," Kowalczyk said.
While a majority of the businesses are closed in downtown, there is a large presence from the police and National Guard, making sure to keep it peaceful. Several hundred National Guard troops surrounded the city with thousands more ready to be deployed.
Agencies are working together to keep this violence out of Baltimore---while some people think it never should have reached this level and more could have been done before the situation blew up.
There are also hundreds of officers from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and DC here to aid the city.
