Pimlico Official Says Preakness Could Move To Sunday In 2016

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Preakness officials are considering moving the Triple Crown race to Sunday, a switch that could come as soon as next year.

Speaking hours before the running of the Preakness on Saturday, Maryland Jockey Club general manager Sal Sinatra said, "I'm a believer in running the big days when people are off."

He said Friday's card at Pimlico Race Course could be improved by being shifted to Saturday.

Sinatra says the switch could come "probably by next year."

Sinatra also said The Stronach Group, which owns Pimlico and Laurel Park, have discussed moving the Preakness to Laurel.

He says it's conceivable that one day in the future, the Preakness will be held on a Sunday at Laurel Park, 28 miles south of Baltimore.
