Vogel graduated from Loyola University with a degree in communications and business with emphases on public relations and marketing.

When asked what motivated her to become involved in the home health field, Vogel responded that her only memories of both of her grandparents are visiting them in their respective nursing homes where each spent a considerable length of time battling chronic diseases. Watching all of this, she says, made a lasting impression and led eventually to the formation of the Lisa Vogel Agency where she is able to incorporate the human values in which she believes.

How does your educational background relate to your current role?

"Through my education, I gained my entrepreneurial spirit. Also, communications is an important part of my current role. Since we are such a personal service and most of our referrals come from current and past patients, I'm constantly communicating. Our reputation (PR) has been the greatest source of new business."

How has your education helped to further your career and contributed to your success?

"I'm not a nurse, although many people think I am because of my business. Quite frankly, all of our work is custodial care. My personal experiences have contributed more than any education."

What is some advice you can offer others looking to go into the field of home health care?

"Be prepared to put your communication skills to work. Also, understand that it's a 24/7 business. You will have employees working while you are sleeping; the phone rings at 3 a.m."
