Hunter Recovering After Shotgun Pellets Removed From Head

PHILIPSBURG, Pa. (AP) -- A Philipsburg man has had four shotgun pellets removed from his head after police say he was shot by a 16-year-old boy while hunting turkeys in Maryland.

Cheri Verbeck tells the Cumberland Times-News her husband Robert Verbeck is recovering at their home after undergoing a surgical operation on Tuesday.

She says her husband still has other pellets embedded in him, including one in the roof of his mouth.

Maryland Natural Resources Police say Robert Verbeck was shot in Green Ridge State Forest by a boy who was accompanied by his father and holding a 12-gauge shotgun.

Natural Resources Police spokeswoman Candus Thomson says police have not yet met with representatives of the Department of Juvenile Services to determine appropriate actions in the case.
