N.J. Man Arrested At BWI For Trying To Pass Gun Through Security

LINTHICUM, Md. (WJZ) -- A New Jersey man was arrested Wednesday after Transportation Security Administration caught him allegedly trying to carry a gun past a security checkpoint at Baltimore Washington International-Thurgood Marshal Airport.

TSA agent detected a .38 caliber revolver in the Voorhees man's carry-on items. The man said he received the gun as a gift from a relative and was bringing it home to Jersey.

Maryland Transportation Authority Police responded to the checkpoint, confiscated the firearm and arrested the man on weapons charges.

Passengers who bring firearms to the checkpoint are subject to criminal charges from law enforcement and civil penalties from TSA up to $11,000.

Firearms, firearm parts and ammunition—are not permitted in carry-on bags, but can be transported in checked bags if they are unloaded, properly packed and declared to the airline.
