Family Sues Police After Boy Struck By Officer's Cruiser

BALTIMORE (AP) -- The mother of a boy who was struck by a police car is suing Baltimore City, claiming no one has answered her questions about what happened.

Tiesha Brooks is suing the city a month after her son, Purnell Summerville III, was struck.

Purnell was hit by the cruiser May 14, the day before his 12th birthday, as he was leaving school in Hamden. Brooks says he remains at Johns Hopkins Hospital in fair condition with a brain injury and multiple broken bones.

Police say the officer who struck Purnell was responding to a burglary-in-progress call. Some witnesses told Brooks the officer was not using his lights or siren.

Police say they don't comment on pending legal matters and that an investigation is in progress.
