Supporters Gather In Edgewater As Hogan Begins Cancer Treatment
BALTIMORE (WJZ)--Governor Larry Hogan embarks on the tough road in his fight against cancer--beginning chemotherapy today--two days before previously announced.

Five months after taking office as Maryland's 62nd governor Larry Hogan announces he is recently diagnosed with an advanced form of cancer.
Previous reports revealed that Governor Hogan would begin treatment quickly, starting chemotherapy Monday, June 29, but WJZ has learned the governor began his chemo treatments some time on Saturday.
"In general the treatment lymphoma involves chemotherapy and that can cause hair loss, it can cause some fatigue, it can cause some lowering of the blood counts, which can make you more tired or more susceptible to infection; but very good a managing those and many many people can work a near normal schedule when they're receiving this kind of treatment," said Dr. Kevin Cullen, Director of the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greeenebaum Cancer Center.
Governor Hogan is often called a workaholic, but Lieutenant Governor Boyd Rutherford says many people are ready to keep the governor on track with state affairs and his health.
"I'd expect he's still going to be doing a lot of work and we're going to have to try to keep him down a little bit and focus on the health," said Boyd.
And when it comes to filling in for the governor when needed, Rutherford says there is no need for anyone to worry.
"Of course the governor makes the last decision, he makes the final decision, but in terms of the deliberations and advice, I've been involved in that; so, I'm aware of the issues and those issues we've been dealing with," he said. "That hasn't changed a lot."
Lieutenant Governor Boyd Rutherford preparing to shoulder much of the governors work load, saying Hogan will pull out a strong victory.
