Driver Gets 12 Years In Prison For Crash That Killed 2 Women

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- A driver, who prosecutors say struck a minivan while fleeing police, killing two people, has been sentenced.

Police say a judge sentenced Ronald Hayes to 12 years in prison Thursday in Prince George's County court.

In March, Hayes pleaded guilty to two counts of negligent motor vehicle manslaughter.

Authorities say Hayes was being pursued by police on Dec. 8, 2013, when he crashed into a minivan carrying six people. Police say Hayes was traveling at speeds of up to 80 mph and at one point turned his headlights off.

Twenty-one-year-old Brittany Queen and 23-year-old Brittany Everett were killed in the collision. Prosecutors say Hayes fled the crash scene on foot, but was soon arrested.

Police say five people, including a passenger in Hayes's car, were injured.
