Body Of Missing Cove Point Swimmer Recovered; Search Continues For Second Victim

LUSBY, Md. (WJZ/AP) --The body of one of the missing swimmers off Cove Point beach has been recovered on Saturday night, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

Authorities say the two men apparently entered deep water on Friday night and became tired of swimming against the tide. The two brothers were swimming with a juvenile who was able to make it to shore safely.

Witnesses told police the two men disappeared beneath the water's surface. Police identified the men as 37-year-old Daniel Brown of Lusby and 39-year-old Douglas Brown of Mechanicsville.

On Saturday afternoon, the Coast Guard announced they were suspending their search after searching approximately 80-square miles for the missing men.

"After more than 16 hours of searching by the Coast Guard and our partner agencies, the Coast Guard has made the difficult decision to suspend the search," said Cmdr. Michael Keane, chief of response at Coast Guard Sector Baltimore. "This decision is never an easy one and our thoughts are with the families of the two missing men."

On Saturday night, Coast Guard officials confirmed the body of one of those swimmers was recovered by the Calvert County Sheriff's department.

The second swimmer remains missing at this time, officials said.
