WEATHER BLOG: Break From The Heat

Hi Everyone,

A little break from the heat coming up the next five days. With either clouds, or rain, ( today and tomorrow), the forecast high temps are 80 and 76. With Sun returning for the weekend temps will only rise into the mid 80's which is exactly normal. But here is my point. Your comfort level is really about the humidity.

Yesterday we had a high within arm's reach of 90. Totally sunny, but the humidity was down. And the day was, while hot, not really oppressive. Recently I have been pointing out the "dew point." That is the number at which condensation occurs. When dew happens. The higher the DP, the more uncomfortable. The higher the Dew Point the "wetter" the air is. The more uncomfortable it is.

Really folks, keep your eye on that dew point in any season. For instance in the Winter when we have a high Dew Point that wet cold feeling  goes right to the bone. In Spring, and Fall,  that wet air can feel "clammy."  The Dew Point  is not just a sideshow on some flashy graphic.

A bit of humidity with the rain tonight, and tomorrow, but drier air will be over the Mid Atlantic this weekend. Make some plans it looks like the "weather will be here" as Jimmy Buffet would say.
