Gun Found In Car With 2 Bodies Was Registered To The Man

BRUNSWICK, Md. (AP) -- Police say a handgun found in a car with the bodies of an estranged married couple was registered to the husband.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday the gun belonged to 44-year-old Daniel Shortt. His body and that of his 27-year-old wife Kelly were found Monday morning in Shortt's car a few miles west of her burning apartment building in Brunswick.

Investigators in neighboring Frederick County say the fire was deliberately set in that building. It displaced 22 people in four properties, including the four-unit apartment house.

The fire was reported about 15 minutes before the bodies were found in Daniel Shortt's parked car. Both had been shot.

The car was registered to Daniel Shortt, but police say he wasn't living at the West Virginia address on the registration.
